The National Pedagogical College “Gheorghe Lazar” distinguishes itself within the Romanian educational environment as a college with a distinctly expressed national outlook. Having at its foundation the famous Normal School for Teachers in Cluj which addressed the educational needs of thousands of elementary-school teachers who subsequently contributed to the development of modern education in Transylvania, The National Pedagogical College “Gheorghe Lazar” is renowned nationally for The Cultural and Excellence Distinctions bestowed by The Romanian Academy (2011) and The Romanian Parliament (2015), as well as for being a European School (2011, 2015) and the winner of the most important competition for students organized by The European Parliament in Strasbourg – Euroscola (2011). Other achievements: The Educational Trainer of the Year- in the context of 2012 Competition 10 for Cluj, and it was recently awarded (November 2016) The European Quality Label for exceptional results in the European eTwinning Project “Life Is Math, Math Is Life”.
At the same time, the school has excellent results at national evaluations (1st Prize at The Pedagogy-Psychology National Olympiad for Pedagogical Colleges, Craiova, April 2016) and is an active partner of the Cluj County School Inspectorate and of the Ministry for National Education and Scientific Research.
The College is a leading institution in preuniversity national pedagogical training, holding also the presidency of the The National Association of Pedagogical Colleges and High-Schools of Romania (ANCLP).
On 31st August 2016, the Principal of the College, Prof. Dr. Mircea Bertea, was decorated by The President of Romania with Education Merit Award in rank of Cavalier.
Levels of study: preschool (Pedagogical Training Kindergarten „Dumbravioara”), primary school (The Pedagogical Training Primary School), the gymnasium and the secondary school. The school has the most modern facilities in Cluj for early and preschool education.
During the last school year, the College students brought together more than 121 prizes and distinctions at olympiads and school contests , among which 32 prizes were awarded at national/international competitions.
